48 Days to the Work You Love
By: Dan Miller
Do you hate your job? Would you willingly switch careers and do something that fulfills you, but you don’t know how or feel tethered to your paycheck and the security of your current job? Then this might be a good book for you to read. Dan Miller leads the reader to some serious questioning of why anyone would stay in a job they hate when life is so short. (The book abounds with anecdotes of people and clients who have come to him stating that they have hated every minute of their job for the last sixteen years, etc.) Equipped with some practical self-questioning and tools (such as very clear-cut goal-setting) to help you bring this about, this book will hold your hand and help you make the decision to make some positive changes to your life so that you don’t have to go through it hating major aspects of your existence, like your career.
If it’s another employee gig you’re looking for (versus self-employment), there are chapters that will help you get your resume in order as well as pump you up for that interview. More importantly however, this book will help you make sure that when you look for a new job, you aren’t just looking for another paycheck but are actually striving to find the job and the career that will fulfill you and your purpose and make you want to get out of bed each day.
Definitely pick up this book if you have spent any time at all loathing the work you currently do. Other options are out there, it’s just a matter of you deciding to pursue them and doing the legwork to make it happen.
