Comment on A Quick Guide to Downloading Open Source Software by Henrik Blunck

I fully agree with the recommendation of OpenSource software. I have for long used OpenOffice instead of the higher priced Microsoft Office suite - and have been happy to use it under either Linux, MacOS or Windows without any problems whatsoever.
But I will also have to admit that if you do need a special tool for your business, describing it well and getting it done with an Indian company can be a great benefit instead of putting your money in standard software where you try to improve it yourself.
As Joel has often said you can concentrate on what you do best when you outsource the things you don't directly earn any money from - and even though 1000$ sounds like a lot of money when you're starting up, you need to consider the expenses involved in "traditional start-ups". Paying deposits and various fees can easily become a lot more expensive than starting your own webshop from the comfort of your own home. When you add to that the fact that you can very probably scale your software upwards for new needs the original outsourcing will earn itself back manyfold.
That's my 0.02$ on the matter. :-)

Great point, Michael. Scoring face time with some important clients could result in paying for your conference and trip many times over. Thanks for the comment!

As a extension of your Who point, find out which conferences are most important to your key clients. If a conference is important to them, it should be important to you.

Combining passion of a subject and compassion for the readers can help in creating a successful online business although I sometimes feel that the amount of work required is quite large as compared to an offline business. Of course, it doesn't seem like that!
I enjoyed your article thoroughly.
Thank you!

Nice interview. Chris truly rocks, and EzineArticles has been a tremendous source for publicating my thoughts and ideas - and certainly the extra traffic from this well-optimized site has fully paid off in terms of qualified visitors to my sites.
We fully support Chris Knight and wish there were more of his type. Giving and sharing a system that is beneficial for all involved. :-)

Nice strategy you have. Your doing it correctly and safe. I also prefer having a blog to keep them updated then send a newsletter when there is a promo, new product or upcoming one, sale, etc. So your idea was really good. Thank you very much for sharing your experience and knowledge in this field.
Regards,
Rebecca

Good system, Chris. We tend to do much the same, but your post motivates me to get it in writing as an S.O.P. You guys are cool!
Rainer, you might want to look into an Amazon S-3 account to store your videos on the cloud. It's easy and cheap. And it's at a separate location, for added security (Heaven forbid you lose those!)
