Sick of the Coffee Shop? Try Coworking

Sick of the Coffee Shop? Try Coworking

Everyone who has ever worked from home knows that sometimes, it isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. Sure at first it can be liberating and novel to “go to work” unshowered and in your pajamas, but eventually many people realize that they get more done when there is more of a demarcation between work and home. Home offices with doors might work, but a lot of people end up looking for someplace to go, like a coffee shop, just to get out of the house, have a little human contact, and escape the myriad distractions of home. Enter the coworking movement.

Coworking spaces are just what they sound like: office spaces for freelancers, independents, or entrepreneurs who are looking for a community of like-minded individuals and a place to work out of. One of the first coworking spaces was Citizen Space in San Francisco. Its creators were sick of working in coffee shops, and wanted to create a space that had the best of both the coffee shop and the traditional work space.

Sound like it’s for you? Investigate the coworking wiki at: coworking.pbworks.com. You might find coworking spaces in your area, and if none exist, the resources available there will help you learn what it takes to start your own.
