The 4-Hour Workweek

The 4-Hour Workweek

By Timothy Ferriss

The chances are good that if you haven’t read this book, you’ve at least heard of it. The life blueprint it provides is legendary: earn six figures a year by working less (way less) instead of more, and spend the rest of your time traveling and doing the things you really want to do. Sound like a pipe dream? Perhaps, but here’s the thing: people have done it, meaning that it’s possible. And if something is possible, then it is possible for you or me (in theory, at least) to do it too.

The two things necessary to live the life of your dreams? Cash flow and time. And, if you’re a doubter, a belief that the whole thing is possible and a willingness to see conventional wisdom (read: the rules that seemingly everyone else lives by) turned on its head. Though if you can’t shake your doubt and buy the whole 4-hour workweek enchilada, there is still plenty to take away from this book. From ways to improve your effectiveness and minimize distractions to the realization of the 80/20 principle to the fact that many people use work as a filler for some other void that they have in their lives, following even a few of the suggestions outlined in the book will make you happier, wealthier, and wiser.

Timothy Ferriss has written an inspiring and riveting account of what has worked in his own life and of what can work in yours. He questions many of the things that our society as a whole takes for granted, and works to give you back some choices that you didn’t know you had. Definitely worth the read or re-read.

I think the challenge that most people face when it comes to Lifestyle Design itself, is being able to make that initial decision to pursue it– especially with the economy.  People are not sure whether they would be entering into something that could keep them/ their families afloat financially if they took on something such as this.
As you mentioned, people have done it, and are living their lives this way each and every day.  For me, it’s been three years, and way before I even had knowledge of The 4 Hour Work Week book.  Timothy Ferriss did a fantastic job at putting this lifestyle out there, and I too feel that it is definitely a great read for anyone who is at a phase in their lives where they want to live the New Rich lifestyle…  Time freedom and income, and just having the ability to pursue long time passions and goals.
Lifestyle Design is definitely there and is attainable, you just have to make a decision to pursue it.

Thanks for commenting, Patrice. Yes, it definitely seems like success hinges on the decision to make it happen. And it’s great to hear from people who have done just that!
